The 1st Annual Bernie and Jane Little

Classic Raceboat Regatta

Tavares, Florida

March 17, 2007

2007 so far,

First came the Rolex 24 hour at Daytona.

Then Georgefest at Eustis Florida.

We just finished the first, of what is going to be a annual event at Tavares
Florida. The 1st Annual Bernie and Jane Little Memorial Regatta

What is amazing about this one, is that it was pulled off in less than 6 weeks
with sponsors.

I knew Tom and Judy D'Eath were instrumental in saving the Detroit Gold Cup
and the creation of the DRA.

Seeing some of what they did for this event, I now have an appreciation for
the talents and energy they brought to the table to be able to do that. Being their own sanctioning body, with K & K as their insurer, they are able to put these shows on anywhere in the country with anyone's group.

That along with the help of others like Bill Feikert, Kathy Shuler, Gerald
Davidson and Marty and Claire Ferry just to name a few, it was another event well
done.

It was fun and Skiffs won the two following awards.

1. Fan Favorite Raceboat:  John Gast with Jersey Skiff Papa's Bundle

2. Highest Jumping Jersey Speed Skiff:  Roger Harris with Breakin' Water

There were 8 Skiffs, and in 2 Heats of 4, we tried hard to stay grouped
together at speed, making it interesting for the spectators but safe for us.

Along with the skiffs, the woodies from the Sunnylands Chapter ran. Jack Rouse, Mike Yobe, Terry Feist, Bruce Bone, Don Koenke and Dick Whyte. Quite a few of the Sunnyland boat owners are also becoming members of the Classic Raceboat Association which is a local boating club.

We were very successful.

Stay tuned for the upcoming special events Classic Race Boat Association is hosting the remainder of the year. Check their web for other details of the regatta and other venues.

It would be easy to go on and on, but I have to get ready for the Mount Dora
ACBS Boat show this weekend.
