My father Dave Schmedes and Jim Bosley purchased their first boat from Bob Notto in the summer of 1967.  The boat was named the 1/4 Ton.  Dave and Jim did extensive work to the boat and renamed it "Cauchacheetin" (it was spelled as one word).  It was painted black and orange with their trademark "checker board" deck.  Their second boat  was painted the same way and carried the same name.  This version of "Cauchacheetin" was built in Bud Bender's shop in 1969-70 and won its first race in Kent Island MD.  It also won The Molson Trophy in Valleyfield Canada in I believe 1973, the first year the skiffs were in Valleyfield.  This picture was taken by my mother in April 1972 at I believe Tucker's dock in Highlands. That is me at age 2 getting ready to do some hot laps on one of the weekly visits.

The picture at the left (supplied by Jim Bosley) was taken at the was taken some time in the mid 70's at a Washington DC regatta.  After my father got out of racing, Jimmy Bosley owned JS-44 outright.  At one time, "Cauchacheetin" was renumbered to JS-42 and renamed to "Miss Highlands".  This was done I believe for points considerations for Artie Cummins.  Chubby Howar also had JS-44 for about a year (1976?) but never completed the deal with Jimmy and he took "Cauchacheetin" back.  Jimmy got the boat back in pieces.  Many people rode and drove in "Cauchacheetin" in the years after my father stopped driving.  Billy Moore, Artie Cummins, Chubby Howar and Rob Garratano to name a few.  The skiff sat in Jimmy's yard for a year or so until it was sold to Bob Santoro from Staten Island in 1978-79.  The timeline is not exact but it is an overview of the time after my father stopped driving.  Information provided by Jim Bosley  and Scott Schmedes

This is what "Cauchacheetin" would look like now (pictured at the right).  Bob Santoro painted the
Skiff Blue and white and kept JS-44.  Bob also installed a Bender deck because the original deck was destroyed.  I f anyone knows Bob or has any information on where "Cauchacheetin" is currently please contact me through
