Orange Crate -"Still racing after 33 years". In 1995, JS 28 made a comeback after a 20 year hiatus. Ralph Cattaneo purchased the skiff in 1985 but did not start working on it until 1992. The boat was built by Freddie Zbranak, Linden N.J. in 1969 (a mold from Joe Clayton, Keansburg, N.J. and raced by Tom Donley, Annapolis MD. 1970 to 1972), had been left out in the weather from about 1975 till 1985 unprotected and the original mahogany deck (see photo by Tom Donley, the 1st"UFO" was destroyed. It took 3 years to complete the restoration which includes a new fiberglass deck from Baron Boats. Fitted with a cage and a fresh 283 she was back racing again at Kent Island in 1995. Doug Cattaneo (Ralph's son) is the riding mechanic and was a big help in the restoration. This may be the oldest racing skiff on the APBA race circuit today.
