My name is Richard Weber and I had an auto repair business in Atlantic Highlands during the 70's and early 80's. This boat was built by Danny White in Atlantic Highlands in the late 70's. Herbie Moore laid up the hull and deck and Danny and myself finished the boat in my gas station on Hwy 36. We assembled the 283 motor during the freezing winter, in a cottage down in Highlands on the kitchen table. (Why we ended up putting it together there I don't remember.) We had help from many people I am sure you know. Sked and Bud Bender to name two. The boat was set up as a river boat, and never raced. We had a lot of fun with that boat although it was only used one summer. Danny chose the name "Outta Control" because that's what it was most of the time.

At speed on the Navesink, catchin air with me driving, that didn't happen often enough.

The following winter it was sold to a guy in Fair Haven (see below) . I wonder where that boat is today? It was green with a white deck as you can see.  By then I had caught the bug myself.  The following year I laid up a boat in Bud Benders mold. This one was burgundy, with a white deck and bottom. Unfortunately, this boat was never finish as financial and marital problems forced the sale of this boat also. I wonder what happened to this boat too? By this time I had become very good friends with Bud Bender and built several high performance engines for him, mostly for river boats. Bud and I traveled to several races together, Garveys, APBA throughout NJ and Maryland. Although Bud did not race any more, I will never forget that gleam in his eye that told me he still wished he was out there racing. Bud was  a great innovator, and skilled machinist. If ever there was something I needed fabricated Bud could figure out how to design and do it. Bud made 99% of the hardware for his boats and had all the jigs and templates to rig them.

As you can probably tell, I caught the bug and never really have been able to shake it. I will try to make it to Mt. Dora as that is about 2 hours from me here in Jupiter on the East coast.

Thank you for the opportunity to share these pictures with you. I DO miss the boat racing even after all these years!!

Here's some additional information from John Waltz, of Leonardo, N.J. " I purchased the boat from Danny White when it was only 1 year old.  I kept the boat for about two years, installed new motor mounts, exhaust etc, then sold the boat to get married (I should have kept the boat).  I then sold the boat to a guy in Lawrence Harbor, NJ.  After that, it fell out of touch".
