Paul Nowak's view...
Right from the time we arrived Thursday afternoon, the good
times began.
We arrived to find Robert & Jane all settled in with Hot Chocolate and a
bunch of the Jersey contingent.
We were then treated to a steak dinner provided by the GIECO team after
which we hit the party at the local Macaroni Grill, one of the sponsors of
this event.
I know there will be a detailed write up to follow, but I would just like to
say, it was a pleasure to participate in an GEICO/OPA/Stars event.
The Jersey boats and a few of the Florida boats were there to race, and race
they did. I hadn't seen Gravy's run in over 25 years. Nothing has changed,
they're still fun to watch.
I have never been on a course with Skiffs that are actually racing. It was
an enjoyable experience.
Some of us that came up from Florida, came to put on, and just be part of
the show. We knew from the two events we did with the Offshore boats at
Marathon, that we could be crowd pleasers with mock races.
There is no question that spectators enjoy seeing competition, or what looks
like competition.
There were cheers during and after every heat and the crowd did seem to pick
it's favorites.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, great meals, ( Breakfast, Lunch and
Dinner ) were provided by great people who's
first concern apparently was that everyone enjoy themselves. We did.
The offshore teams I talked to, and there were many, all enjoyed the Skiffs
and Garveys and thought we did a lot to
keep the crowds entertained between their main events. This could become
addicting.
Thanks to all.
