The boat was originally raced out of Tennessee and called the Prospector. It was purchased by Dave Yeager from Jeff Buckley in 2000. Dave totally restored the boat in 2000 and installed a stock inmar marine 350 motor with velvet drive transmission. Dave renamed the boat to River Rat and numbered it JS-97. The boat was campaigned on the vintage circuit for two years and sold it to Mark Breese in 2002.

Mark changed the number to JS-87, drove the boat for four years and December 2006 sold it to Marty Ferry to run at Daytona. Marty sold River Rat to Rick in March 2007.
