Shrewsbury River Memoirs

Provided by Keith Mewes

December 2005

Marty,

I have been helping my mother move and  came across a book my  uncle (Byron Briggs) helped to write called Shrewsbury River Memoirs.  It was published in 1951.  It is divided into sailing, ice boating and a short chapter on Jersey Speed Skiffs. There are few pictures  but one of them is of the original Falcon. The top speeds for the skiffs were in the 40's at that time.  Much of it is about how the local clubs came about and were maintained to keep the water sports alive.  It deals with the history of the Long Branch Ice Boat and Yacht Club.   I raced a skiff from 1972 until 1978.  Charlie Boland was my neighbor and we grew up together.

Will talk to you later.
