"The Jersey Speed Skiff that was built within the rules."

I spoke with Ron and asked if there were TWO skiffs built by him. Ron laughed and said" I made so many changes in the boat between 63 and 64 some think there were TWO boats". When I got rid of the boat, I took the 289 Ford out and the v-drive, replaced them with a inline Chevy 283 I took out of an Owens cabin cruiser. The So Slo was glass over wood on the bottom. My riding mechanic was Billy Black. My thought after racing and building outboard race boats for years, would be to build a speedskiff that was both safe, fast, and within the class guidelines. The speedskiffs were going faster than the design was meant to be, and no one seemed to care. After the So Slo design was proven to be superior at the races, those in the know changed all the rules and literally made the So Slo obsolete. She sat at Stanecki's for some time before being sold to Jim Harver in upstate NY.
